I apologize in advance to all the Sailor Moon fans that I am potentially about to offend.
But really? Like come on. They’ve been married all of…5 minutes? And she says “I felt something just now as if a new star were being born inside of me.” You could view this as, aw, so sweet, she feels so happy. My thought is, oh hey, Chibiusa was conceived on the night of their engagement or whenever they had sex before tying the knot. Usagi pretty much just announced in a philosophical way that she was pregnant.
I have a problem with this, okay. Now hear me out.
Usagi and Mamoru never really got to be alone, just to be a couple. Because right after they got together, like maybe 2 weeks of down time, Chibiusa plops down on top of Usagi’s head. I love Chibiusa, very dearly. She’s a BAMF little princess. However I have a huge problem with Chibiusa becoming the focal point of Usagi and Mamoru’s relationship.
I mean, for like their entire dating phase Chibiusa was right there, in the middle of it. Which had to be uncomfortable. How do you politely tell your future daughter to go into the living room and close her ears while her future parents bang in the next room? Sure, Usagi and Mamoru would have been classy and embarrassed and probably waited until she was like asleep to go at it, but still extremely awkward. As they got to know her, Usagi, Mamoru and Chibiusa had their family love-fests that were sweet enough to rot your eyeballs from their sockets. I know Usagi and Mamoru loved each other, as themselves, not for their whole past lives or for their futures. But there had to be immense pressure on their relationship to know that they were going to create this amazing little life form that loved them so much. I’m not saying they felt like it was an obligation to have sex, for Chibiusa to be born. (Since obviously they love to express their affection physically.) But, I still think they had a long and serious conversation about having sex, protection and just when they felt it would be the right time to start trying to make their baby after Chibiusa’s parentage was revealed.
Chibiusa has left them pretty recently, to go start her life as a proper princess and scout. But almost immediately after she left, she’s back in another form. It is sweet in a way because Usagi regarded Chibiusa as one of her best friends and her daughter. Now she won’t have to live too long without her. But dang, can Usagi and Mamoru have a couple of months where they don’t have to think about a pink-haired little girl needing something from them? You could argue they were “alone” for the pregnancy but even so, almost all their time would be caught up in creating Crystal Tokyo, defending from demons and making sure Usagi was having a good, safe pregnancy.
In a way this really makes me love and understand why Chibiusa had to go away. (Not only for her training.) But maybe so that Serenity and Endymion could… rediscover what it was like to be a couple, to be happy with just themselves. Being locked in ice and holographic forms for a couple years can really strain a marriage, just saying. So, I guess I support Chibiusa sent away since, Serenity and Endymion needed each other, to relearn each other intimately and emotionally, without needing to constantly look after their little princess. Basically, this is what Neo Queen Serenity really should have written in her note to the scouts.
Thanks for giving me a second honeymoon! Have fun looking after my kid while I bone my ridiculously hot husband with all his medals. Sucks to be celibate giiiiiiiiiiiiirls.
